Background of Upazila Administration

The city of Laksham is known as a commercial city. The population density is about 5,000 per sq km. It is one of the five largest railway junctions in Bangladesh. Laksam Thana was transformed into an upazila in 1982. At that time its area was about 529.34 sq. Km. At that time there were 26 unions in this upazila. In 1983, 05 unions 1) Bangada 2) Periya 3) Nangalkot 4) Jodda 5) Adra Union were incorporated in Nangalkot upazila. In 2003, 11 unions 1) Khila 2) Natherpetua 3) Bipulasar 4) Jhalam North 5) Jhalam South 6) Maishatua 6) Lakshanpur 6) Baishgaon 9) Hasnabad  10) Sarashpur 11) Uttar Howla was incorporated in Manoharganj Upazila. Lastly in 2004 04 unions 1) Bagmara 2) Volain 3) Belghar 4) Perul Union was included in Sadar Dakshin Amartma. At present there are 07 unions- 1) the rest 2) Mudafarganj Noth 3) Mudafarganj South 4) Kandirpar 5) Gobindpur 6) Uttarada 7) Azgara 8) Laksam East and Laksam Municipality activities are going on in Laksam Upazila.
